The Benefits

School leaders fulfill a myriad of responsibilities in order to manage a school effectively. While all of these responsibilities are important, not all of them share a direct connection to student achievement. The Balanced Leadership Profile survey is based on the findings from McREL's meta-analysis, which identified 21 leadership responsibilities that are essential for increasing student learning.

The Balanced Leadership Profile will determine if a specific school improvement initiative (e.g., changing to a block schedule, adopting a school-wide writing program) is a first-order change or second-order change and how well users execute each of the 21 responsibilities based on the improvement initiative.

In addition, the Balanced Leadership Profile includes online professional development tools, strategies, and resources linked to the 21 leadership responsibilities that increase users' understanding of each responsibility, including what it is, how to emphasize it, why it is important, and when to pay attention to it.
